Valo x Earth Hour: We made a pledge to the planet

It's Earth Hour again! Valo Future is participating by making its own pledge to the planet.

Earth Hour is the world's most widespread environmental event, where individuals and organisations express their concern for the state of the environment. Turning off the lights is perhaps the most well-known part of Earth Hour, but by making a pledge to the planet, participants can reflect on their own impact on environmental and climate crises, and commit to action for a better tomorrow.

Many of us have probably heard of Earth Hour, or even participated by turning off our lights and electrical appliances for an hour. Hanging out by candlelight is indeed a lovely hygge in the chilly March, but turning off the lights is mainly a symbolic gesture to draw attention to the nature and climate crises.

When WWF Finland announced that organisations could also take part in Earth Hour, for example by making a pledge to the planet, the lights were turned on at Valo Future's office. What could we pledge?

Valo Future's pledge for the planet as part of the Earth Hour 2023 event.

Many of the examples of organisational pledges were things that many of us already do, such as favouring public transport for commuting. We wanted to genuinely think about what action Valo Future could take to have the greatest opportunity to make a positive impact.

We concluded that our work has the potential to have a high multiplier effect thanks to our extensive customer and partner networks. It is therefore important that we actively promote not only the interests of our customers and partners, but also those of the environment and climate - and a healthy planet and society are also the basis for successful economic activity.

That is why our promise to the planet is:

Valo Future promises to highlight the opportunities and necessity of sustainable development in everything it does.

There was also a surge of enthusiasm from the people of Valo to make their personal pledges. What would be yours?

Several Valo people also decided to make their personal pledges to the planet, which they commit to follow through on in their daily lives.

The exercise genuinely made us reflect on what we ourselves could do better for a prosperous planet. We therefore encourage all organizations and individuals to reflect on their own promises and share them with others!

On Saturday 25.3.2023 from 20.30 to 21.30, let's turn off the lights and electrical appliances together. Happy Earth Hour 2023 everyone!
